Please join the Museum for a preview of Teresa Sullivan’s beaded sculpture.

Teresa’s sculptures and wearables invite you to add your voice to the stories she shares. Tapestries jump to life, sculptures leap from the ceiling. Beadweaving is as intricate as it is low-tech; nothing needs to be burned to create it. But to infuse this artwork with thematic and technical content, she makes hundreds of micro-decisions as she works.

Teresa turns this medium, long marginalized as safe/rote/escapist, on its head. Intricate, repetitive weaving techniques give these tiny components structural integrity. The intensely methodical pace of the work allows her to flesh out ideas as she works. With iconic imagery and symbolic use of color, she encourages discussion and even dissent.

Please visit Teresa Sullivan’s website to learn more.
