Extra Credit: Students Mine the Collection is a collaborative experiment in curatorial methods which brings new perspectives to the Museum’s permanent collection and which builds on the growing partnership between Pacific Northwest College of Art and Museum of Contemporary Craft. The exhibition, which runs from January 31 - July 11, 2015, is the final product of an intensive and experimental course in curatorial studies taught by PNCA professor Victor Maldonado alongside Deputy Director Nicole Nathan and Museum staff. Over just two weeks and drawing from a rigorous schedule of readings and discussions on curatorial practice, students designed and executed an exhibition of objects from Museum’s permanent collection and exploring themes of beauty, the body, disrepair, and aural resonance. The combined exhibition and winter intensive represents an exciting new educational incubator for professional practices in artist and student curation, and encourages future collaborations between the classroom, studio, and gallery.
