breathing, thinking, living lie explores the early stages of scholarly research into the nation state by connecting twentieth century nationalist movements with current phenomena of right-wing nationalism and xenophobia. A parallel, theoretical framework based upon Adorno’s concept of the Lie anchors the work within Julian’s activities within both the Visual Studies and Critical Studies programs. This interactive installation places the viewer into the cyclical nature of history as an active agent within these reconstructed and repeated events.

OPENING RECEPTION - Friday, June 23rd // 6-9pm

ABOUT - Julian Adoff received his BA in Studio Art and Visual Culture from Linfield College in May 2016. He is the first dual degree candidate in the MFA in Visual Studies and MA in Critical Studies at PNCA. With hopes of pursuing a PhD in Art History after his time at PNCA, Julian’s studio practice explores the notion that research is a creative act.

Curatorial Fellow and MFA in Visual Studies candidate, Elena Thomas, is the present facilitator of exhibitions at the Lodge Gallery inside Allied Works Architecture and PNCA’s MFA Galleries / Student Project Spaces at 511 NW Broadway.
