In Flesh, Allynn explores the body as undergoing constant transformation, doing self-portraiture that takes time to recognize and appreciate the slowest changing details. He uses colored pencils to express an ongoing fascination with the human form and the surprising beauty of imperfection.
About: Allynn Carpenter grew up in Washington State, receiving his BA from The Evergreen State College. He moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2016 to attend the Pacific Northwest College of Art, where he is an MFA Visual Studies candidate. Allynn’s work takes a variety of forms, including drawing, painting, and collage. He is interested in challenging the perceived deficiencies of transgender bodies, positioning them instead as sites of limitless, sometimes supernatural, potential.
Visiting artists and curators enrich PNCA’s MFA in Visual Studies, a multidisciplinary, mentor-based program that encourages independent inquiry and supports critical approaches to the production of visual art. Grounded in one-on-one mentorships, the program is enhanced by exhibition opportunities, seminars, residencies, and national and international travel.
