Lens Flare - New work by Hannah Bakken + Brittany Vega
Opening Reception: March 5th // 6-9pm
Hannah Bakken (b. 1993, Salem, OR) uses printed media, photography, video, performance, and installation to reflect on how the “cowboy narrative” intersects with constructions of gender, material economies, nationhood, and the environment. She will receive her MFA in Print Media from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2019 and received her BFA in Studio Art from Southern Oregon University in 2017.
Brittany Vega was born in Florida, raised throughout the southeast, and received her BFA in painting from Memphis College of Art in Memphis, Tennessee. Experiencing variable places, as homes or through travel, has impacted her research into ways we understand our migratory relationship with lands. In this series, Vega considers how differing landscapes can become aesthetically prioritized (ie. the backyard vs. the mountain) and offers a moment where multiple converge into one.
The Curatorial Fellows and MFA in Visual Studies candidates, Kelly Brand and Qamuuqin Maxwell, are the present facilitators of exhibitions at the Lodge Gallery inside Allied Works Architecture and PNCA’s MFA Galleries/Student Project Spaces at 511 NW Broadway.
