John Park is a creative technologist specializing in interactive computer programming, animated projection, and digital fabrication techniques to address themes of science and environment. Practicing digital craftsmanship for visualization, rough prototyping, and polished large scale installation, Park’s new works stress making physical forms that move data out of abstraction and into sensory experience.
For performance and art installation-based projects, Park is a co-founder and head of visual art of Harmonic Laboratory, an interdisciplinary Arts collective born in 2010. As an educator and mentor, Park is a Senior Instructor of Art + Technology in the School of Art and Design at the University of Oregon.
Park received his M.F.A. in Computer Art from SUNY Buffalo in 2006, and his B.A. in Multimedia Design from the University of Oregon in 2003. Park’s diverse background in photography, 3D modeling, experimental animation, computer programming and electronics hacking has led to a larger investigation of what the most appropriate uses of these technologies should be in today’s cultural climate.
