Making art is a problem solving activity based in the creative act; an art object is a vehicle for communication; art exhibition authors public history. This exhibition is the culmination of a year-long studio-to-exhibition course in which artists constructed their personal message, created an object of art intended to deliver it, and co-curated an exhibition to engage the public with their work.
Claiming Voice presents new works by five emerging artists from the PNCA Community Education class, Claiming Voice taught by Sara Siestreem’s (Hanis Coos). The exhibition, curated by Siestreem, features works by Mark Dunst, Kathi Miller, Drew Stinus Fredenburg, Ekaterina Kolpakova and Elizabeth Serreau in painting, printmaking and mixed media sculpture.
The Claiming Voice class provided a year long mentorship experience designed to guide experienced artists towards professional success. Claiming Voice brings together varied artists addressing topics of identity, visual language, environment, social interaction and psychology.
