Jackson Mills Smith, also known to some as muggybrew, studies the language, imagery, and mythic qualities of various niche cultures in relation to the act of angling within the United States. Work often takes the form of experimental prose and poetry, installation, photography, and performance. The artist and writer currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Being born in Louisiana and raised in Southern Indiana, he strives to navigate the mysterious cultural sphere that shaped his own identity. By means of oral storytelling, found family photographs, letters, memory/remembering, and first-hand experience, Jackson brings forth and introduces a narrative of rural America and the activities that occur in these places in a different lens.
