Evening With an Artist: Michael Brophy '85

Michael Brophy graduated from Pacific Northwest College of Art in 1985 and later joined the faculty at the College. A native Oregonian, Michael creates paintings that are uniquely indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. His work, ranging in scale from the grand to the more intimate, pays homage to Oregon’s natural and human history. Please join us for a conversation with Michael about the evolution of his work.

New York based artist, Anicka Yi, will join us for a lecture on their work and practice as part of the MFA in Visual Studies Lecture Series.

Anicka Yi’s installations, videos, and objects draw on scientific concepts and techniques to activate vivid fictional scenarios, asking incisive questions about human psychology and the workings of society. Yi uses unconventional materials to examine what she calls “a biopolitics of the senses,” or how assumptions and anxieties related to gender, race, and class shape physical perception.
