Pen Pal Photography

Remember PenPals? Before the Internet people used the postal service to find, meet and communicate with one another. What if photographers used that idea, but with photographs instead of letters? This exhibition features the students from the Analog Digital Dialog class at PNCA who sent their work to Essen, Germany for an exhibition at Galerie 52 in Folkwang University of the Arts. At the opening reception the students in the gallery in Germany and the classroom in Portland were able to meet and have a discussion around the work via video conference. Eleven students in the German gallery selected a piece in the exhibition they wanted to respond to photographically. The PenPal Photography exhibition features PNCA student work alongside their Folkwang counterparts for the first time.

Two Thirteen - Photo and Sculpture by Simone Fischer

A solo show of transition and decay, with sculpture created in response to a photographic archive documenting SE 82nd Avenue. Simone deploys steel, a highly charged material imbued with the history of the industrial complex, to coalesce ideas about class, consumerism and the emotion of an eroding place. Through photo and oxidation, the artist visually depicts what it feels like to be apart of the deteriorating working-class community in Portland.
