With both Parker and Hardy showing at Russo Lee Gallery in November, we are excited for this opportunity to explore the bond between student and teacher in this exclusive artist talk with both artists.

ABOUT LUCINDA PARKER

Among the most admired painters in this region, Portland-based artist Lucinda Parker has forged an impressive career that includes ambitious public projects in Oregon, Washington and California. Originally from Boston, Parker received a BA jointly from Reed College and the Pacific Northwest College of Art, in Portland, OR, and an MFA from Pratt Institute, New York. Her work has been exhibited at numerous one-person shows throughout the Pacific Northwest and nationally. The Portland Art Museum honored her with a mid-career retrospective in 1995, and the Boise Art Museum presented a one-person exhibition of her work in 2002. She was also included in the Bonnie Bronson Fellows twenty-year retrospective at Lewis and Clark College, Portland. Parker’s work is part of collections throughout the Northwest. Major public collections include the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, the Portland Art Museum and the Seattle Art Museum. Public commissions can be found at the Oregon Convention Center, Portland City Hall, and a new federal courthouse in Bakersfield, California, among others.

In 2013, Parker was among the first artists-in-residents selected by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation to work for a month in Captiva, Florida. The resulting painting is now in the collection of and on permanent public display at Reed College in Portland, purchased with the support of a grant from The Ford Family Foundation.

ABOUT ROLL HARDY

A native of New Hampshire, Roll Hardy moved to the Northwest and graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2002. As an emerging young painter, he received several scholarships during his studies including the C.S. Price Award for Painting in 2002, Thesis Prize, Pacific Northwest College of Art, 2002, and The Venice Foundation Painting Scholarship, 2000-02. He has completed both private and public commissions, including a series of pieces for the Visual Chronicle of Portland collection. His work has also been included in group exhibitions including Critical Messages: Contemporary Northwest Artists on the Environment, which toured to Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA; Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem, OR, and Boise Art Museum, ID; and Up on the Wall, 6 Painters from the West, Prichard Art Gallery, University of Idaho, Moscow, ID. His work can be found in public and private collections, including that of the Portland Art Museum.

ABOUT THE EVENING WITH AN ARTIST SERIES

Throughout Portland, you can see the influence of Pacific Northwest College of Art’s student, alumni, and faculty artists and designers on the cultural landscape of the city. You can encounter their work in galleries and artist-run spaces, in exhibitions and permanent collections, and as public art on streets and along transit corridors.

In this new event series, PNCA presents intimate conversations with emerging and established artists who share a deep connection with PNCA. We hope you will join us for an Evening With An Artist this fall.
